Week 2

Who has obstacles?

I know this is a silly question.

Here’s the thing, we all have stuff. I know I have a laundry list of things that are ‘wrong.’ From managing type 1 diabetes to not driving from a visual impairment to chronic pain etc.

Sometimes it all just seems like too much and I want to say ‘@#%*it.’

I write in my book ‘Dance because You can’ how people often told me how inspiring I was and to Never Give Up.

What was my reaction? To disappear.

So, this week, you get FULL permission to go all out with what’s wrong.

How do you do this? It’s easy.

I want you to make a laundry list of everything going ‘wrong’ with your life. It can be health issues, financial issues, relationship challenges, family stuff, anything really.

Yes, go to town!

Now, once you have your list take a deep breath. How do you feel? Make a mental note.

Find a marker or crayon or sharpie and your next assignment is simple.

Draw a HUGE X through the list.

Then throw it away.

I know for me many of the circumstances have not changed. But what has changed over time is my attachment to the circumstances and need for the drama of it all.

Once I literally X’d out the list I could work on how best to move ahead.

I know this is a lot to wrap your brain around but it’s OK.

What can you X Out of your life today.

I ask myself another question.

When I meet someone or am asked how am I doing what Is my first response?

Do I lead with my list of troubles? Do I start talking about everything that is not working?

When I became aware of what ideas I am leading within my mind I could make a conscious effort to reframe and change the conversation, both in my mind and in actual conversation.

Once I X’d out my list it had less power over me.

Try it. Let me know what happens.
